EPP Theory Seminar: Andrew McLeod: Geometric Aspects of Feynman Integrals, at One Loop and Beyond

Abstract:

Our ability to make observable predictions in perturbative quantum field theory is directly impacted by our ability to evaluate Feynman integrals. Towards this end, I discuss various geometric aspects of these integrals that can be used to facilitate their computation. In particular, I review the correspondence between one-loop integrals and volumes of hyperbolic simplices, and use it to derive new compact formulas for the all-mass box and pentagon in four and five dimensions, respectively. I then discuss the types of geometries that show up in the integration contours of higher-loop integrals, and show that in many cases these integrals involve integrations over Calabi-Yau manifolds.
